Industry Night

Description

Industry Night was a six-week-long collaborative project and the largest assignment I had undertaken so far, requiring careful coordination and application of a wide range of skills. I was responsible for producing the promotional video to highlight Industry Night, ensuring it captured attention and communicated the event effectively. The project also involved creating a dedicated website for Fanshawe's IDP3 programs, integrating both the video and other promotional content. This assignment required teamwork, creative problem-solving, and attention to detail, resulting in a cohesive, engaging presentation that successfully promoted Industry Night while showcasing the program's offerings.

GOAL

  1. Establish Industry Night as a recognizable and professional event that highlights Fanshawe's IDP3 programs.
  2. Ensure all promotional materials strictly follow the program's brand guidelines, including the correct use of logos, typography, and brand colours.
  3. Design a cohesive visual identity for the website and promotional content that feels modern, engaging, and consistent with Fanshawe's branding.
  4. Develop a promotional video that effectively communicates the event's purpose, attracts attention, and aligns with the established brand identity.
  5. Create marketing materials—including website graphics, social media visuals, and video content—that maintain brand consistency while appealing to a wide student and industry audience.

PROCESS

We began with collecting and analyzing Fanshawe's branding materials, ensuring all designs strictly followed the program's guidelines for logos, typography, and brand colours. We then wireframed the website layout and planned the structure of the promotional content to create a clear and engaging user experience. Marketing materials—including website graphics, social media visuals, and the promotional video—were designed with clean layouts that highlighted the event while maintaining a cohesive brand look. Because we were competing against our classmates, extra care was taken to make our designs stand out and feel unique. The promotional video served as the centerpiece, effectively communicating the excitement and purpose of Industry Night. All assets were refined through feedback and testing, resulting in a polished, professional presentation.

PROBLEM

During the Industry Night project, collaboration with my teammates went smoothly, and most tasks progressed without major issues. My main challenges arose when working within Fanshawe's strict brand guidelines. I initially proposed a creative approach which was 3D modeling a computer and producing a retro, old-school-style promotional video—but this idea was not well received by the professors. As a result, I had to rethink and completely remake the materials while still adhering to the brand rules. Despite the setback, I was able to finish strong, producing a polished and professional website and promotional video that effectively represented Industry Night.

RESULT / CONCLUSION

The Industry Night project successfully produced a cohesive and professional presentation that highlighted Fanshawe's IDP3 programs and promoted the event effectively. The website and promotional video adhered to brand guidelines while presenting the content in a clear, engaging, and visually appealing way. Marketing assets—including social media visuals and website graphics—worked together to create a polished and unified campaign. The final presentation was well-received by both professors and peers, ultimately earning second place, narrowly missing first, and demonstrating the team's ability to overcome challenges and deliver a strong, professional outcome.
